My name is Max Greenwood and I am ITV Content Delivery’s newest apprentice.
There are many reasons why I applied for the role. I love television, and thought that an apprenticeship at ITV would be a great opportunity to learn more about the media industry. I also enjoy learning practically in the workplace and I wanted to carry on studying and to earn a Business Administration qualification. The role at ITV fit all my criteria which made it perfect for me. The fact that ITV is home to such a diverse and inclusive work environment was also very important to me too.
At first the application process involved a number of different stages. The first stage was the online application, which then led to a virtual experience day which had two parts; a group task which centred on teamwork and problem solving, and a presentation which I focussed on my passion and achievements in martial arts. After the experience day I was invited to a final interview with a senior manager. Although the application seemed daunting, I was actually well supported by ITV throughout the process as the Apprenticeship team at ITV were always there and on hand to answer any questions I had – and they even put on a virtual preparation session in the run up to the experience day. If anyone is unsure about applying to ITV, you should definitely give it a go as it ended up being a really enjoyable and rewarding experience.
I was over the moon when I got the call to say I’d got the job as it meant that I was able to start my career whilst developing my skills and continuing my education.
I had a mixture of feeling both nervous and excited in the run up to my first day. One of the things I was most nervous about was starting a new job during the lockdown as I thought it would be difficult to connect with people. My nerves were quickly put at ease in the first week as I had numerous calls with all the different teams and everyone at ITV Content Delivery were so warm, friendly and welcoming.
Since starting the role I have been performing a variety of tasks. I’m currently in the Content Processing team and my main responsibility at the moment is to Timecode Capture (TCC). TCC’ing is where you log component elements within a video file, that give instruction to transmission and catch-up platforms as to when programme parts start and end. It’s a really important task that requires a high level of attention to detail, one mistake could mean programmes are broadcast out of sequence or programme parts start and end incorrectly.
I’ve been at ITV Content Delivery a month so far and I really love the job and over the next 12 months I look forward to learning more and hopefully getting into the office to meet everyone in person!
